A guided tour of the unique high country between the Rangitata and Rakaia Rivers.

This tour takes in the hidden gems of the Ashburton Lakes and Hakatere Conservation Park, a vast glacial landscape of waving tussocks and pristine lakes, all surrounded by a stunning alpine vista.

The region has 11 lakes with a large number of birds who live in its protected wetlands. This is a region unique in New Zealand it has a big sky, vast landscape feel, with wonderful views of the Southern Alps and nearby glaciers. You will see just why this was a location in Lord of the Rings. If you are in need of some time away from the crowds, your guide can show you some great tracks and trails for a short walk.

A visit to the historic Hakatere station with its photos, displays and original buildings completes your day.
